The Initiative for Sustainable Development Education (ISDE) at the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Sofia is an informal teachers’ network providing mutual support to university teachers in educating students and self-educating themselves in the ESD field throughout the five faculties of the University.
Peer-based support and learning is at the core of the network’s ESD focus. Two key principles are considered: ESD is a values based process (transfer of knowledge, skills and values), ESD is interactive (continuous dialogue among teachers and students).
Professional Development Approach
The ISDE is based on regular informal meetings among teachers for sharing personal experience, addressing issues of practice, research and education in the professional field and discussing opportunities for practical action to integrate the SD topic into the curriculum.
